Mission

Lullaby is presently a division of Cerebral Diagnostics Canada Inc. The mission of Lullaby is to offer products and services which meet the needs of patients and health care workers as they seek ways of helping their patients to sleep better. Sleep remains mysterious. It is not even entirely clear why we sleep. What is clear is that if people do not sleep well it greatly reduces their ability to think clearly, be productive in their careers, feel rested and enjoy life. We spend about one quarter to one third of our day asleep. Cerebral Diagnostics began an a developer of 3D real-time brain imaging products. We developed an intricate imaging system that is based on EEG. For decades, EEG has been the backbone of sleep medicine. Now sleep labs around the world measure EEG during sleep in order to stage sleep (into stages 1,2,3 and REM) and to diagnose a host of sleep disorders. Staging is based mostly on EEG wave forms. So, for example when we say someone is in Stage 1, we are largely saying that their alpha waves found before they fall asleep have dropped out and disappeared from their EEG. There is a problem with EEG. Without knowing what part of the brain generated the wave forms, there is a limit on how much one can understand about them. Without understanding we are frozen. Understanding is the basis for new diagnostic tests for sleep disorders and for designing new treatments. If we truly understood what the brain does in order to fall asleep, then imagine how much better a position we would be in to treat insomnia, which affects millions of people.
